Through our sojourn in Kampung Chumnik we noticed that the villagers hardly ever eat meat. Their daily staple consisted of rice, fish soup and vegetables.
Apparently meat is very expensive and is saved for wedding feasts. The other avenue to taste meat is during the annual Eid al Adha celebration when donors from Malaysia and Singapore would contribute money for the korban ritual.
Even so the amount that each lucky family received was absolutely pitiful. Almost negligible.
Therefore we embarked on a quest to organise the korban programme in Kampung Chumnik and the surrounding villages with contributions coming from our relatives and friends.
And we have done this each year since 2009. Through the korban programme we have managed to distribute beef to more than 1000 families with each family getting between 1.5 to 2.0 kg each.
